WieselWissen · Android app

Here we explain which data is used while learning with WieselWissen and how you can manage it.

Last updated: 6 September 2026 · App version 1.0

A short explanation for children

The weasel remembers on your tablet what you would like to be called and which tasks you have completed. You can use a nickname and a weasel picture. A real photo is not necessary.

We do not receive your answers through our own app server. Other services may be involved if your tablet creates backups, reads texts aloud, saves a worksheet outside the app or you voluntarily send an email. Please ask an adult to explain these settings.

2. Scope

This policy applies to the Android app WieselWissen, package name de.wiesel.mathetrainer. It is intended for parents, guardians, teachers and other app users. For visits to our website, the ManniBest website privacy information also applies.

When the app is used in lessons, the respective school makes a separate decision on the permitted use of pupils’ personal data. This policy does not replace the school’s privacy information.

3. Data stored locally by the app

  • Profiles: a chosen name, grade, profile identifier, avatar and, where applicable, a voluntarily selected profile picture.
  • Learning progress: completed tasks and stations, answers, correct and incorrect results, hints, repetitions, time spent and timestamps, as well as points, achievements and unlocked areas.
  • Settings: for example, sound and interface settings and the most recently used profile.
  • Worksheets: tasks, text entered by the user, worksheet settings, saved templates and automatically saved work in progress.

This data is stored in the app’s private storage area on the device. WieselWissen requires no online user account or email address for learning. A real name or real photo is not necessary.

4. Purposes and legal bases

The data is used to distinguish profiles, adapt exercises to the grade, preserve learning progress, offer practice and create worksheets. It is not used for advertising.

Where Mannibest GmbH is the controller for this local processing, it is carried out under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR if a usage contract exists with the data subject. Otherwise, it is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to provide a functioning learning app with local profiles, learning progress and worksheets.

Necessary storage on the device supports the explicitly requested app function within the meaning of section 25(2), no. 2 TDDDG. Analysis of answers controls learning activities and unlocking, but has no legal or similarly significant effect.

5. Networking, advertising and analytics

The app contains no online service of its own for profiles or learning progress, no advertising and no embedded analytics, tracking or crash-reporting services. It does not request internet permission or automatically transfer locally stored learning data to us. Android system services, voluntarily chosen storage and printing services, email services and Google Play are separate from this.

6. Voluntarily selected profile pictures

WieselWissen uses the Android file picker for personal profile pictures. The app reduces the image to a maximum of 1,024 pixels along each edge and stores a compressed copy in private app storage. It does not receive general access to all photos. The internal copy is removed when the picture is replaced or the profile is deleted.

If you select a picture from a cloud provider, that provider processes the selection under its own terms. For children, the supplied avatars or nicknames are preferable.

7. Read-aloud through Android

When you use the read-aloud function, the app passes the learning text to the configured text-to-speech service. The function does not record speech or require a microphone. Depending on the provider, voice and device settings, speech output may take place locally or through a network service. WieselWissen does not enforce an offline voice.

8. Android backup and changing devices

The app allows Android data backups. Depending on the device and settings, profiles, learning progress, settings, profile pictures and worksheets may be included in a system backup or device transfer. We do not operate this backup and gain no access through it. You can manage it in device and account settings.

9. PDF export, sharing and printing

When exporting PDFs, sharing or printing, you choose the destination through Android. The selected storage, email or printing service receives the data intended for that purpose. Cloud storage locations and external services also have their own privacy policies. Exported files and printouts are not automatically removed when a profile or the app is deleted.

10. Google Play and the operating system

Google or the respective platform provider may process data under its own responsibility for downloads, updates and reviews. Google’s privacy information applies to Google Play.

11. Retention and deletion

Profiles and associated learning progress remain stored until deleted. Profile management deletes a profile, its learning progress and the internally stored profile-picture copy. Worksheet templates are deleted separately in the editor.

All local app data, including settings and worksheet drafts, can be cleared in Android settings under Apps → WieselWissen → Storage. Uninstalling normally also removes local app storage. System backups, exported PDFs, original photos and data held by external services must be managed separately.

12. Voluntary feedback by email

“Ideas & suggestions” opens an external email app with a draft addressed to [email protected]. The draft includes the app version, device manufacturer, device model and Android version to help handle technical feedback. WieselWissen does not send it automatically. You can change or remove information and cancel the draft.

When you send it, we receive your email address, sender name where provided, message, voluntary attachments and any device information left in the draft. Profile data, learning progress, statistics and worksheets are not attached automatically. Please do not send children’s personal data. Processing is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual matters or Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for other enquiries. Further information is available in the website privacy information.

13. Your rights

Where applicable, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection, withdrawal of consent and complaint. Because we do not hold data stored exclusively within the app, you can delete it through profile management, Android settings or uninstallation.

The competent supervisory authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf.

14. Data security and minors

Local data is stored in Android’s protected app area. Protect the device with an up-to-date Android version and screen lock. WieselWissen does not create online accounts for children. Parents can delete local profiles and progress at any time.

15. Changes

If functions or data processing change, we will update this policy. The current revision date is shown at the top of this page.
